Who is responsible

Scoop Approved is a brand extension of and is operated by Etobicoke Scoop. Questions or requests about personal information can be sent to hello@etobicokescoop.com.

What we collect

When a homeowner requests help, we collect the project description, neighbourhood, timeline, first name and the email address or phone number they choose to provide.

When a contractor applies, we collect the information entered in the application, including contact, business, service, licence, insurance and experience details.

Our hosting provider may also create basic technical logs, such as an IP address, browser type and time of access, for security and site operation.

Why we use it

• To understand local demand and prioritize the first service categories.
• To review and respond to homeowner requests.
• To identify and introduce an appropriate Scoop Approved contractor when one becomes available.
• To assess contractor applications and carry out the vetting process.
• To operate the directory, investigate concerns and protect against misuse.

A homeowner request will not automatically subscribe someone to the Etobicoke Scoop newsletter.

When information is shared

Submitting a homeowner request does not mean it is immediately shared with a contractor. When a suitable contractor has earned Scoop Approved status, contact and project details may be shared with the contractor selected to respond. Information may also be processed by service providers used to host the website, receive forms and operate the service. Information may be disclosed when required by law.

Contractors are expected to use homeowner information only to respond to the request and manage any resulting project.

How long it is kept

Request and application records are normally kept for one year from the date they are submitted, unless a longer period is reasonably needed for an active project, complaint, legal obligation or dispute. Information that is no longer needed is deleted or anonymized.

Safeguards

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used to limit access to personal information. No method of online storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your choices

You may ask what personal information Scoop Approved holds about you, request a correction or withdraw consent for future use, subject to legal and operational requirements. Contact hello@etobicokescoop.com.
